Online copywriting is not a passion, it's a practice. You are not born with an innate capability to work as an online copywriter, you develop this capability, you nurture it. So let's define what makes you an online copywriter.
- An online copywriter writes for website, web pages and even blogs
- An online copywriter knows how to write for an online audience
- An online copywriter says more with less words
- An online copywriter recognizes the importance of right words and right headlines
- And an online copywriter knows how to write search engine optimized content
The last one is not quintessential to being an online copywriter but you certainly get an edge over the other online copywriters if you know how to write SEO content

What makes you a successful online copywriter?
- LEARN FAST: An ability to learn fast, is the first-most ability that you should have. You can never evolve into a successful online copywriter unless you know how to first de-learn and then re-learn. A great benefit of being an online copywriter is that there is no shortage of work. But this can also be a disadvantage if you are not used to grasping new concepts with alacrity. I mean not only understand facts, but also write them as well as you can.
- ADAPT FAST: Things on the Internet change in the blink of an eye, literally. As an online copywriter you should be aware of the caprice of the online world. You should also be able to adapt to new things and new concepts without much inertia or reluctance. A writer who thinks he or she has learned enough can never become a successful online copywriter.
- KNOW HOW TO LOOK UNDER THE HOOD: By this I mean you should know a little bit of HTML and even how the search engines interpret your web pages. This way you'll be able to utilize the page formatting tags to optimize your SEO writing efforts.
There are hundreds of other tidbits that differentiate successful online copywriters from the normal, average online copywriters. But if you follow the guidelines mentioned above, you have covered half the distance. The other half depends on your individual qualities and what goals you have in your life.
