Want to work as an online content writer or a copywriter, probably for me? Here are the guidelines.

Please use correct English

I get at least 3 queries everyday from "wannabe" content writers and most use lousy English. And by lousy I don't just mean small, innocuous errors. For instance, read this:

I m a freelance writer, and is interested to get linked with y .pls explain me the work and the payment procedure.thank you

If you can't even properly ask for work, how do you expect me to trust you for professional work where I'll be responsible for whatever you do?

Please remember this is your tool -- your language. If you cannot write even correct English, how can you even think of writing well as an online copywriter and content writer?

Don't send me two liners

If you are sending me work queries that contain just two sentences then it conveys to me you neither have time to do my work nor are you very serious. Send me long queries -- at least 300 words -- detailing your interest in writing and how much you've written so far. "I want to be a content writer" or "I love to write" won't work, because if this is the scene, I know you don't really want to be a content writer and you don't really love to write.

Reply please

This is really amazing. Even when I respond -- which I do sometimes -- people simply don't respond. Do I have to say more? If you take months to reply -- whatever is the reason -- it means you are not a regular communicator. If I respond to your query, I expect an answer within 24 hours at least.

Create an online portfolio

Show, don't tell -- every writer knows this. So show me your work. Please don't send attachments. Send me direct links or create web pages, put your samples there and then send me those links. It can be your blog (with more than 30 entries) or you can just think up of something and write about that. The point is, I need to see your depth and your "love for writing". If you have nothing to show, please don't enquire, or wait until you have something to show.

Keep in touch

I cannot give work to people I don't know properly. I need to know you, and for that I need to interact with you and get acquainted with your general dynamics. My clients pay me for work and I'll be paying you for your work, and when payment -- money, I mean -- gets involved people become very cautious. I'm online most of the time and people can access me most of the time. I regularly maintain multiple blogs and if you search for "amrit hallan" on Google you'll get 100s, or may be 1000s of pages for my name. This enhances my credibility. It has taken years to establish it. If you think by just writing a vague email you can get paying writing assignments then forget it. And anyway people who don't keep in touch are not good workers. So constantly keep in touch if you want to get work, at least from me.
